A Word About Your Money

Advertising is a necessary evil

It is also a horrible way to spend money, given the uncertainty of return. I remember agonizing over whether or not I should invest in placemat ads at a diner I regularly ate at while running a mom-and-pop business back in the 1980s. I did, but I never got any business as far as I know — I just threw that money away.

Business owners throwing away money like that are behind some enormous fortunes. William Randolph Hearst built a castle in San Simeon, California, based on those dollars a hundred years ago and advertising remains a means of accumulating incredible wealth. Just ask Mr. Zuckerberg. Google's ad revenue in 2023 was reportedly $237.86 billion, and no matter how AI affects advertising, it is not likely to make it cheaper because AI itself is enormously expensive to run.

Looking2 won't do that for its founder because we have taken so much money out of the equation. The business model deliberately precludes the creation of a billionaire; wealth, yes, of course, but not private jet and superyacht levels, especially given our commitment to charity and good staff pay. The vision here is simple and cheap — pay a very modest amount and let the power of a database funnel your business up to whomever may be looking for it. No bells and whistles, just a clean list of search results that the whole world can sort through however they want to sort through it, without some huckster telling them what they 'really want' from behind the scenes. People know what they want — let's make it easier for them to find it. Listings made during the roll-out period are only $1 and don't require an annual renewal so don't miss your chance to get in on the ground floor.
